Welcome to Malibu

The city of Malibu was incorporated in 1991. Malibu is world famous for its Mediterranean climate and 27-mile strip of scenic coastal land. The first Malibu inhabitants were the Chumash Indians, who named the area “Humaliwo.” The name was later adapted to become “Malibu.”

The area is known for being the home of Hollywood movie stars, people in the entertainment industry, and business tycoons. With a population of less than 13,000, most Malibu residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway, while some residents living up to a mile away from the beach up narrow canyons.

Real Estate Insights

Throughout the years, Malibu real estate has become a trophy location. Malibu’s market is so small that minor changes to sales and prices will exaggerate any growth or decline in the real estate market in the neighborhood. But what is certain is that the stretch of beach north of Los Angeles has become one of priciest locations in the U.S.

Malibu has attracted some of the biggest sales in the country over the years. For instance, billionaire entertainment entrepreneur David Geffen sold his Carbon Beach estate for $85 million and billionaire hotel magnate Peter Morton unloaded his contemporary beach home for a city record of $110 million.
